In this work the sculptor, Francesco Laurana (1430-1502) crystallizes the essentials of the face in the ordered calm of pure and mellow geometric forms. It is assumed by many critics that the bust is a portrait of Isabella of Aragon.
Isabella was a Queen consort of Portugal and heir presmptive of King Ferdinand II of Aragon and Queen Isabella I of Castile, as their eldest daughter.
