This Hand from the tomb is one of Rodin’s many works representing hands. He kept many clay studies of hands in his studio and contemplated them as sculptural forms. For Rodin, hands and their interplay in groups of figures were expressive elements, and they strengthened his interest in the partial figure: a part of the body could convey meaning on its own.
