The Yale of Beaufort is one of the Queen’s Beasts, a set of ten heraldic statues James Woodford made for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II on 2 June 1953. The originals went to Canada in 1959 and now stand in the Canadian Museum of History in Quebec. Woodford carved a replica set in Portland stone in 1956, donated to Kew, where the beasts guard the approach to the main entrance of the Palm House.
